About Club Sports

Club Sports are programs comprised of students who wish to remain competitive.  For most, this is an opportunity to continue playing the sport they love and for others, is an opportunity to learn a new sport. No prior experience is necessary to join.

These competitive programs set out to compete against other colleges in the region by joining a conference or league with the hope of winning a regional or national title. All clubs are student-led, meaning the students organize all practices and competitions, recruit, and do community service projects to give back to the community and institution that support them.

Currently, we support 14 club sports:

Baseball (Men's) - Founded in 2021 and members of the National Collegiate Baseball Association, the baseball club competes in the Midwest North Region. This team qualified for regionals in it's first year of competition. Their competitive season runs March to May with opportunities of fall ball.

Bowling (Men's and Women's) - Founded in 2016 and members of United States Bowling Congress, this club compete from October to March.  Both teams travel together and compete primarily in local tournaments. 

Disc Golf (Co-Rec) - Founded in 2021, and members of College Disc Golf, the club competes across the Midwest. 

Fishing (Co-Rec) - Founded in 2022, the fishing club is members to Major League Fishing and will compete across the country.  They will attend local fishing competitions as well.  They plan to fish year round - weather permitting. 

Rugby (Men's) - Founded in 2002 and members of National Collegiate Rugby. The teams play 15s in the fall and 7s in the spring. The men had their highest finish in history in 2021, finishing 2nd at the national tournament. 


Rugby (Women's) - Founded in 2002 and members of National Collegiate Rugby, the women's program is consistently ranks at the top in the nation. The teams play 15s in the fall and 7s in the spring. Our women's program have won 13 national titles - including the 2021 title. 

Shotgun Sports (Co-Rec) - Founded in 2021, Unaffiliated, competes across the Midwest.  This program participates in three events per competitions: Clay, Skeet, and Trap.

Soccer (Men's) - Founded in 2016 and members of the Great Plains Conference, this soccer club bolsters a diverse group of students that compete across the Midwest. The 2019 team represented five different countries!

Ultimate Frisbee (Co-Rec) - Founded in 2019 and members of USA Ultimate, this club competes locally, and will soon join a league.

Volleyball (Men's) - Founded in 2019 and members of the National Collegiate Volleyball Federation, the men's volleyball club competes across the Midwest. In 2022, the club won the division 2 bronze bracket at the national tournament. 

Volleyball (Women's) - Founded in 2022 and members of the National Collegiate Volleyball Federation, the club competes across the Midwest. 

Wrestling (Men's) - Founded in 2008 and members of the National Collegiate Wrestling Association, this program has welcomed success throughout their years. In 2020, the men brought home two All-Americans and a top 20 finish in the nation.

Wrestling (Women's) - Founded in 2022 and members of the National Collegiate Wrestling Association, this program is set to take on the southwest conference of the NCWA.  

Mission Statement
The mission of the Wayne State College club sports program is to engage the campus community to remain healthy and active by participating in sports.  Whether an experienced veteran or looking to try out something new, club sports are open for all students to enjoy.  These student-led clubs, with the support of the Recreation Services staff, offer opportunities to compete against other institutions, develop leadership skills, and to serve others on campus and in the surrounding community.
